Colour light in the sauna and infrared cabin

Colour light is a popular addition to saunas and infrared cabins. By using coloured light in a targeted way, the atmosphere during a sauna or infrared cabin session can be individually adapted. Many people find different light colours pleasant and use colour light for relaxation, to create a special atmosphere or as part of a personal wellness ritual.

What is colour light therapy?

Colour light therapy, also known as colour therapy or chromotherapy, refers to the use of coloured light for wellness and relaxation purposes. Different colours are traditionally associated with different psychological and atmospheric effects.

The basic idea is simple: light and colours can influence our perception and mood. Bright, warm colours are often perceived as stimulating and energising, while blue and green tones are more commonly associated with calm, relaxation and balance. However, individual perceptions may vary.

Colour light therapy should be distinguished from medically established forms of light therapy. Scientific evidence for the specific health effects of individual colours is limited. Colour light should therefore primarily be understood as a complementary wellness application and not as a substitute for medical treatment.

What effect do different colours have?

When designing an infrared cabin or sauna, different colours can be used to create different moods.

Red is traditionally associated with warmth, energy and activity. Red light can create a warm and intense atmosphere.

Orange is perceived by many people as friendly, warm and stimulating. It can contribute to a cosy atmosphere and is particularly suitable for an invigorating wellness experience.

Yellow is often associated with light, brightness and optimism. Yellowish colour light can create a bright and welcoming impression in the room.

Green represents nature and harmony. Green light is often perceived as calming and balancing and can contribute to a relaxed atmosphere.

Blue is generally associated with calm, spaciousness and relaxation. For this reason, blue light is often used for relaxing wellness applications.

Violet or purple is often associated with calm, creativity and a distinctive, meditative atmosphere.

It is important to note that these associations primarily describe traditional and subjective perceptions. Not everyone responds to colours in the same way.

Colour light in the infrared cabin

In an infrared cabin, colour light can be easily combined with pleasant warmth. While the infrared heaters provide the desired heat application, colour light can change the atmosphere inside the cabin.

Another advantage is the option to choose the light colour individually. Depending on your mood, warm red or orange light can be selected to create a cosy atmosphere, while green or blue light can create a calmer mood.

Colour light applications are particularly effective in cabins with light-coloured wood. Light wooden surfaces reflect the coloured light, making the colours appear more intense. Dark wood, on the other hand, absorbs a larger proportion of the light, making the cabin appear darker overall.

Colour light in the sauna

Colour light can also be an interesting addition to the sauna. It allows the atmosphere in the sauna room to be adapted to personal preferences. Combined with warmth, tranquillity and mindful relaxation, it can create an individual wellness experience.

Colour light does not have to be complicated to use. Modern control systems make it easy to select individual colours or colour changes and adjust the lighting to personal preferences.

Wellness with light and warmth

Colour light therapy can be a simple way to make time spent in a sauna or infrared cabin more varied. The combination of pleasant warmth, subdued light and individually selected colours can contribute to relaxation and a personal sense of well-being.

The focus is primarily on subjective perception. Which colour is experienced as pleasant, calming or stimulating varies from person to person. It is therefore worth trying different colours and finding your personal favourite for your own wellness application.

Colour light is therefore not a medical therapy, but a versatile addition to saunas and infrared cabins that allows the wellness experience to be individually customised.
