Build your own lying cabin – how to plan your infrared cabin for lying down

If you sit or stand all day, you naturally want to lie down to relax. The deep heat of a lying cabin helps to relax the entire body.
How to plan a lying cabin yourself can be found on this page. Tips for implementation are also available on our website and in the instructions. You can also get inspired by customer examples.

Defining the space for a lying cabin

Lying down requires significantly more space. Consider whether you want to install a curved lounger or a straight one. Set up your preferred lounger or place a mat/blankets in the appropriate size on the floor. There should be enough space all around, without being too tight. Check where the door can open properly and where you can comfortably lie down on the lounger.

The shape of the lounger

You have probably already tried different types of loungers – sun loungers, loungers in wellness areas, …

A curved lounger has the disadvantage that you can only lie on your back. You also need to make sure that the curvature of the lounger feels comfortable for you. If the shape does not suit you, unpleasant pressure points can occur, especially with wooden loungers.
With a straight lounger, such as in a sauna, you can lie both on your back and on your stomach. In addition, such loungers also allow you to sit upright.

Folding backrests offer several options for relaxation.

Arrangement of the infrared heaters

What will your lounger look like? This question is important in order to determine the optimal position of the back and ceiling infrared heaters.

Back heater:
The back heater should of course be positioned behind the back in order to work optimally. You therefore have to already decide during the planning stage what your lounger will look like later on. With a straight lying surface similar to a sauna bench, the back heater can be mounted horizontally with some distance below the bench in the back area (attention: not at head level). However, if your backrest is positioned at an angle, the infrared heater should also be mounted at an angle.

A lounger has the challenge of being both comfortable and stable. Infrared radiation does not penetrate wood. One solution is therefore to make a wooden lounger slightly narrower in the area of the back heater or to integrate an opening directly.

Ceiling heaters in lying cabins:
The most powerful infrared heaters are always used as ceiling heaters. They distribute infrared radiation relatively widely. Therefore, one heater per lying surface is sufficient.

Direct heat on the face is perceived as rather unpleasant by most people. A ceiling heater is therefore positioned so that it does not radiate directly onto the head, but rather onto the body itself.

For a straight lying surface of approx. 2 m in length, a central position is for example a good option. In this case, it is always possible to individually decide on which side the head should be placed.
